How to Make a Cell Pizza

Here's the Extra Credit Cell Project for Seamus Lawson, 3rd Period Honors Biology
Due Date:  Monday, December 3, 2012

Ok, let's give that another try:

Here's the rest of the show:

Follow these convenient step-by-step instructions:
Laying down the Cell Membrane (Pizza Dough)
Lipid Bilayer that encloses the cell and allows some particles in and some out

Brushing on the Cytoplasm (Tomato Sauce)
CYTOPLASM- Holds all components of the cell together

Covering the edge with the Cytoskeleton (Boiled Pasta)
CYTOSKELETON- Helps maintain cells shape

Putting the Nucleus down (Apple)
NUCLEUS- Holds the cell’s DNA and is the center of the cell

Distirbuting the Chromatin on the Nucleus (Saffron)
CHROMATIN- What the DNA is made of and gives it the genetic information

Close up of the Nucleus and Chromatin

Keeping the Nuclear Envelope on (Apple Skin)
NUCLEAR ENEVOLOPE- Envelops the nucleus in a protective double membrane

Adding the Nucleous to the Nucleus (Cinnamon)
NUCLEOLUS- Part of Nucleus that produce ribosomes for the cell

Close up of the Nucleous

Studding Nuclear Envelope with the Nuclear Pores (Szechuan Pepper)
NUCLEAR PORE- Proteins that cross the Nuclear Envelope constantly

Making the Rough ER (Mashed Potatoes)
ROUGH ER- Transports proteins all over the cell, the cell’s personal UPS or FedEx

Adding Some Texture

Adding the Attached Ribosomes (Black Pepper)
10. ATTACHED RIBOSOMES- Ribosomes that are attached to a particular membrane, but produces proteins

Placing the Smooth ER (Mushrooms)
SMOOTH ER- Responsible for the growth and development of cellular hormones.

Grouping the Centrioles also makes up cytoskeleton (Boiled Pasta)
CENTRIOLES- Group of 3 micro-tubes that help makes up the cell’s cytoskeleton

Adding the Microtubes which is also centrioles and what cytoskeleton is made of (Boiled Pasta)
MICROTUBES- Make up the cytoskeleton and are a major part of intracellular transportation

Cutting the Golgi Apparatus

Adding the Golgi Apparatus (Garlic Head)
GOLGIA APPARATUS- Packages the proteins to be shipped all over the cell

Cutting the Mitochondria (Tomato Slices)

Adding the Mitochondria (Tomato Slices)
MITOCHONDRIA- Power center for the cells

Getting the Lysosome (Dried Cherries)

Adding them to the Pizza (Dried Cherries)
LYSOSOME- Contain enzymes that is necessary for cellular digestion

Vacuole (Egg Yolk)
Gently putting the membrane bound yolk (Egg Yolk)
VACUOLE- Membrane bound sac that releases cellular waste

Another Picture of the Vacuole
Adding the Free Ribosome (Black Pepper)
FREE RIBOSOMES- Ribosomes that is free in the membrane that still makes proteins

One last picture that has everything and a delicious, animal cell pizza

Putting it in the oven (Hope it tastes good)
